Feile Bia
"The Feile Bia programme was developed in response to growing consumer demands for information when eating out about the quality standards to which their food is produced and where it comes from. Feile Bia partners include the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Euro-toques Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation. The programme is also supported by the vintner's associations and the farming community.

Central to the Feile Bia concept is that members source the maximum amount of freshly available produce. In addition to promoting traceability, Feile Bia aims to encourage sourcing from artisan producers and small butchers and highlighting this supplier information on menus."

Eating out in Pubs 2008 guide
Larkins Bar & Restaurant, Garrykennedy is featured in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs 2008 guide. It is one of only 16 Irish pubs that appear in the book’s 550 best dining pubs in Britain and Ireland.

The 2008 edition of the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide contains details of over 550 pubs visited by Michelin inspectors throughout Ireland and Britain. Its selective texts give an insight into the character of each pub mentioned, the crucial factor for selection being the quality of food served.

This is what the new Michelin guide has to say about Larkins: “This thatched, whitewashed inn at the end of the lane looks barely big enough to swing the proverbial pussycat, leave alone house a whole troop of Irish dancers, but Larkins is actually a lot larger on the inside than it appears from the out, and plenty big enough to accommodate the local live groups who entertain from Wednesday to Sunday.

“Whitewashed walls covered with old pictures and classic adverts spark off nostalgia, as do the cabinets behind the bar full of old food packets and tins."

There is a simple lunch menu and a longer evening version, both of which offer wholesome, hearty cooking served in portions which will satisfy the healthiest of appetites. Homemade soda bread is served at the start of your meal, and you can choose from dishes ranging from steak burger and stew to sea bass and salmon, via seafood chowder and spicy chicken salad.

"The rear garden and dining room overlook the shores of Lough Derg.”

Appearing in the Michelin guide is truly a great achievement for the Garrykennedy owner/managed premises. Only in business since March 2006, local couple Maura and Cormac Boyle and their Head Chef Ms Olive Hickey have steered Larkins towards good food and top class hospitality.
This couple were also recently accepted into the Good Food Ireland circle. The Boyles say that Larkins’ commitment to sourcing as much Irish local foods as possible was a definite criteria in receiving the accolade. Larkins have also this year been recipients of the highly desirable recommendation by the well-known Georgina Campbell’s Guide.

Garrykennedy residents Cormac and Maura bought Larkins in 2006. Their aim is to present the best of Tipperary hospitality and food to the many visitors in the region. Larkins attracts functions and groups from a 40-mile radius.

The Lake tourism business is extremely important to Larkins as it gives Maura and Cormac an opportunity to showcase local food and music to the many visitors to Garrykennedy.

Larkins have successfully turned the business into one of Tipp’s premier food and music venues.
At the moment Maura is busy preparing Christmas menus for the party season.
